The PA knows that uncertainty about what would happen if it collapsed scares the public, and that the West and Palestinian public can’t do without the modicum of stability it provides

„There doesn’t seem to be any unusual tension in Ramallah. The People’s Party withdrew from the government to protest its conduct. But it seems as if the PA has allowed itself some violent suppression, because it knows that the uncertainty about what would happen if it collapsed scares the public. Because it’s certain that the Europeans, America and the Palestinian public can’t do without its services and the modicum of stability it provides through its security and civilian cooperation with Israel.“
