Israelis for Peace Webinar hosting the Forum for Regional Thinking | 23.3.2025
Join for an upcoming webinar discussing „The Present Day: Peacemaking Alternatives for Israeli Policy,“ a policy document developed by the Forum for Regional Thinking in collaboration with the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.
The document analyzes the events leading up to October 7 and the subsequent war, criticizes Israel’s immediate and long-term policy, and offers recommendations for recognizing Palestinian national rights and achieving a historic reconciliation.
Dr. Shmuel Lederman and Dr. Eli Osheroff, two of the document’s authors, share their key insights and discuss paths for action. The online event would be held in English.
In January 2025, the Forum for Regional Thinking, in collaboration with the “Israel in the Middle East” research cluster at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, published an extensive analytic paper on the road to the Gaza war, including recommendations for a way out of the war towards historic reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Am 24. und 25. November 2024 versammelte sich eine Gruppe diverser Akteur:innen – palästinensische und jüdische Staatsbürger:innen Israels, politische und soziale Aktivist:innen, die tief in ihren jeweiligen Communities verwurzelt sind – in den Büros der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung in Tel Aviv.
Diese Aktivist:innen sind langjährige Partner:innen für das Israel-Büro der RLS vor Ort und wir unterstützen sie daher in ihrem Engagement für politische, wirtschaftliche und soziale Gerechtigkeit für alle Menschen in Israel. Seit dem 7. Oktober 2023 sehen sie sich mit noch existenzielleren Bedingungen als zuvor konfrontiert, weshalb ihre Arbeit auch wichtiger ist als je zuvor. Wir baten sie daher, vor der Kamera eine Reihe von Fragen zu ihren Erfahrungen und Reflexionen der vergangenen knapp 14 Monate zu beantworten, und dokumentierten in diesem Film ihre bewegenden und inspirierenden Antworten für das deutschsprachige Publikum.
Dieses Projekt entstand aus dem Wunsch unserer Mitarbeiter:innen, Raum für persönlich-politische Geschichten zu schaffen, die oft ungehört bleiben. Es vereint authentische Zeugnisse von Trauer, Kampf, aber auch Hoffnung und unerschütterlicher Stärke von Menschen, die seit fast eineinhalb Jahren im Krieg leben und dennoch weiterhin sprechen, handeln und auf eine bessere Zukunft hoffen.
Wir sind dankbar für ihre Bereitschaft, ihre Geschichten mit uns und dem interessierten Publikum zu teilen. Sie geben persönliche Einblicke und bieten zugleich umfassendere politischen Reflexionen über die aktuelle unhaltbare Situation. Nicht zuletzt dokumentieren wir mit diesem Film, dass es weiterhin diejenigen progressiven Stimmen in Israel gibt, die Solidarität und die Unterstützung der internationalen Linken benötigen, heute mehr denn je.
So sieht es Jair Golan
Der Vorsitzende der „Demokratischen Partei“, dem Zusammschluß aus zwei kleinen linken Oppositionsparteien in Israel, Meretz und Avoda, Jair Golan im Gespräch mit Tilman Schröter und Anja Wehler-Schöck vom Berliner Tagesspiegel. Die Partei würde laut Umfragen aktuell elf bis dreizehn der 120 Parlamentssitze in der Knesset erhalten. Die nächste Wahl soll im Herbst 2026 stattfinden. Golan wurde 1980 ins israelische Militär eingezogen und stieg dort bald auf. Er kommandierte verschiedene Einheiten und war von 2014 bis 2017 stellvertretender Generalstabschef.

A complete ceasefire deal – No less!
After more than a year of this disaster, finally we can feel some hope. Israel and Hamas have signed a deal to end the war in Gaza – this means an end to the hostilities, the return of hostages to their families, and calm after relentless bombardment for Palestinians in Gaza. Finally, we can breathe a sigh of relief and start to rebuild and recover.
Alongside this hope there is a real fear that our government will sabotage the deal before its second phase can be completed. The extremist far right is already pushing for the war to resume after the first phase: Smotrich is talking about guarantees he received from Netanyahu about the future of Gaza and Ben-Gvir has said he will return to the government only after fighting resumes. For them, the release of just 33 hostages is enough, and the ceasefire can collapse after 42 days.
We are demanding no less than a complete deal. We will not accept a situation in which the government ignores the will of the majority and drags us back toward the abyss. We refuse the continuation of the brutal war in Gaza and the abandonment of the hostages on the altar of messianic ideas of occupation and settlement.
The immense public pressure we exerted on the government was crucial to reaching this ceasefire and hostage deal. Now we have 42 days to demand that the deal continue to its second phase. We have 42 days to fight for our future here. Raise a global voice and help us demand a complete end to the war. No less.

„The hollow expression coined by Trump, „all hell will break out“ – without indicating what hell and who will walk through its gates – is the factor that turned the magic key needed to compel Netanyahu to agree to a deal that Biden laid on his desk many months ago. Could Biden have opened the gates of hell himself at an earlier stage? No commission of inquiry will be established in the U.S. to examine all the administration’s failures regarding the handling of the war in Gaza, but it appears that both administrations, Biden’s and Trump’s, can already draw a clear conclusion: Israel only understands force.
