Yesterday we passed our bill to raise the minimum wage to NIS 40, in a preliminary reading in the Knesset. Only 4 Knesset members opposed a bill, including the Prime Minister. This is a moment to celebrate an important victory: A victory that got us closer to helping over a million workers who earn a minimum wage, that put an issue with 83% of the public support on the main table, and created political partnerships never seen before. „
During the ten months of the struggle, we heard all kinds of „experts“ who told us that we would not succeed and that there was no chance, but we proved them wrong. When the Minister of Finance, the Manufacturers Association of Israel, and the H
istadrut (National trade union center) agreed on a package deal that included a „wage increase“ of 54 agorot (cents) per hour – there were those who underestimated our ability to influence the deal, but we blocked it entirely. Even now, after a minimum 40 law has been passed in a preliminary reading, there are those who argue that it does not mean much.
So we say it as clearly as possible: people who are united around a just demand, and a shared interest, and who organize to build power – can also do what seems impossible and unattainable. We have hope, and the power to change our reality.

Yael Deckelbaum: Today I am doing an act of love, and releasing “Hayati”, with a video clip that was filmed along the wall of Bethlehem.
It is clear to me as day light that this creation needs to be released.
I feel a great privilege to strengthen the voice that sees the other side, and makes room to grieve this reality as it is now, and still holds the faith that things can change through the power of love and healing.
I have been collaborating with Meera Eilabuni for many years now, and I appreciate our friendship deeply.
During the making of this video we met Razan Munayer, who is an amazing woman, and hosted us with great generosity.
I heard true stories from real people, and I cried allot.
To this I add a blessing that the walls of fear will melt within us, and that we will learn to live in peace.
Inside me I already feel that another wall has melted.

Die Berliner Zeitung hat zur Debatte um den Tod der palästinensisch-US-amerikanischen Journalistin Shireen Abu Akleh einen lesenswerten Beitrag des Tel Aviver Wissenschaftlers Gal Hertz veröffentlicht:
„Wer hat Shireen Abu Akleh erschossen? Aus der forensischen Perspektive werden wir es womöglich nie erfahren. Aber wenn wir über die politischen Bedingungen nachzudenken und wie sie einen Raum der Gewalt formen, können wir eine Antwort finden. Shireen ist nicht das erste und wird leider auch nicht das letzte Opfer eines Konflikts sein, der so lange nicht gelöst werden kann, wie unsere politische Vorstellungskraft auf Ballistik beschränkt ist.“
– Gerade an einem Tag wie heute, der in Jerusalem Macht statt Respekt, Emotion statt Vernunft auf den Straßen sieht, nachdenkenswerte Worte.
