After two unbearable years, we can finally celebrate the deal that will put an end to the killing and destruction in Gaza and the suffering of the Israeli hostages. We’re full of hope and anticipation for the ceasefire to come into effect and to watch the hostages reunite with their families. The joy in the streets in Gaza and Israel last night was incredible. This moment couldn’t have come soon enough.
Now, we must fight for the only thing that can give all of us freedom, safety, and independence: Israeli-Palestinian peace. Peace means an end to the occupation, an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel, and a comprehensive agreement. We simply have to end this dark chapter and move forward toward justice for all of us.

Ein Gespräch von Simon Wenzel, rbb|24 mit Dr. Jannis Grimm, Konfliktforscher am Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Friedens- und Konfliktforschung der Freien Universität Berlin zum Hinterrgrund der heutigen Demonstration in Berlin gegen den Gazakrieg („All Eyes on Gaza“ am Großen Stern)
The question of Palestine took centre stage in late September as world leaders convened in New York for the UN General Assembly’s 80th session. With France and Saudi Arabia chairing a conference on the two-state solution on 22 September, nine new countries confirmed that they had formally recognised the State of Palestine. A tenth, Belgium, has pledged to put its recognition into effect once certain political conditions are met. The announcements mean that 156 of 193 UN member states have officially crossed the recognition threshold.
In this Q&A, Crisis Group Senior Analyst for Israel/Palestine Amjad Iraqi explains the pluses and minuses of this momentum and suggests how it might be channelled into more effective action.
