Arab-Jewish Party A Place for Us All Drops Out of Knesset Race

The party’s leaders announced they decided to withdraw from the election ‚out of a sense of responsibility and to avoid wasting opposition votes,‘ after their attempts to join the newly revived Joint List failed.

The Arab-Jewish party A Place for Us All announced Tuesday that it would not run in the upcoming Knesset election, after efforts to join forces with other parties failed.

The party will therefore not submit a slate of candidates to the Central Elections Committee. „The party decided not to run in the upcoming Knesset election, out of a sense of responsibility and to avoid wasting votes,“ it said in a statement. Haaretz, 8. September 2026

Wer wußte was wann?

Noch gibt es keine unabhängige Untersuchungskommission in Israel zum 7. Oktober. Die Frage nach Verantwortung und Verantwortlichkeiten ist mitten in den Wahlkampf geraten.

Die Tageszeitung Haaretz hat am 8. September 2026 einen großen Beitrag von Shlomi Eldar und Ruth Yuval zu dieser Frage veröffentlicht.

Hier die Zusammenfassung, die Haartetz selbst anbietet:

A week and a half before the October 7 massacre, Mohammed bin Zayed, the president of the United Arab Emirates, called Netanyahu and spoke with him for 45 minutes. He gave him an explicit warning that Hamas‘ leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, was planning a major operation against Israel. Bin Zayed expressed concern that the event in question would not only lead to bloodshed but also destabilize the entire region and undermine the Abraham Accords. He urged Netanyahu to take the matter seriously. But to his surprise, the prime minister reacted with relative calm. He said that, in his assessment, Hamas intended to operate in the West Bank area, and reassured bin Zayed that Israel was prepared for any scenario.

The Emirati ruler did not imagine that the prime minister would hear the message but wouldn’t brief the heads of the defense establishment about the warning.

Bernd Asbach (1949-2026)

Die Adresse Groner Tor ist irgendwie noch immer präsent bei mir… Dort saß die „Buntstiftung“, eine der Vorläuferinnen der Heinrich Böll-Stiftung und da war auch Bernd Asbachs Büro. Schon Mitte der 1990er Jahre gab es Kontakt zum diAk, dem Bernd über Jahrzehnte verbunden war, aktiv im Vorstand oder bei den Publikationen, aber auch immer wo es möglich war, durch institutionelle Kooperationen, Stichwort etwa Arnoldshain. Als Nahostreferent der Heinrich Böll-Stiftung seit 1997 baute er die Büros Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Beirut und Rabat mit auf. Davon hat auch die Arbeit des diAk immer wieder profitieren können.

Julia Scherf, über viele Jahre Vorsitzende des diAk, hat es so beschrieben:

„Anstatt zu hetzen, plante Bernd mit Bedacht. Als mein unmittelbarer Vorgesetzter in Berlin unterstützte mich seine Anerkennung und Förderung unserer Ideen aus dem Büro Tel Aviv. Natürlich kam er auch während der 2. Intifada mit Selbstmordanschlägen in Israel zu Besuch: Er gab mir uneingeschränkt Zugang und Vertrauen zu den von ihm in den neunziger Jahren aufgebauten exzellenten Kontakte in die israelische Zivilgesellschaft. Bernd brachte mich auch zur Vorstandsarbeit im Deutsch-Israelischen Arbeitskreis und brachte dort seine Erfahrungen im Nahen Osten in die ehrenamtliche Arbeit ein, weit über Textredaktionen der vierteljährlichen israel & palästina Ausgaben hinaus!“ 

Der diAk wird ihm ein ehrendes Andenken bewahren und seine Arbeit zwischen den Linien und über Grenzen hinweg dankbar erinnern.

Unser Mitgefühl gilt seiner Frau Birte und seinem Sohn Anton.
