At The Abraham Initiatives, some of our most successful models for building shared society have come from abroad. Just as we evaluate our own programs, we study best practices from around the world and how they can strengthen Jewish-Arab relations in Israel.
In October, The Abraham Initiatives’ staff, supporters, and leadership went to Northern Ireland to learn about the Good Friday Agreement and how it might apply to the Israeli context.
We came away with both inspiration for our own work and a renewed sense of hope.
On a webinar last week, our UK Board Member and internationally renowned actor, writer, singer and activist, Mira Awad, discussed her takeaways from the study trip:
| “The trip to Northern Ireland, first of all, told me that I don’t have the privilege of losing hope…Fearmongers want us to believe that this conflict is unsolvable. But 25 years ago, the Irish conflict was supposed to be unsolvable.” |
| To this day, Catholics and Protestants continue building and testing the systems necessary to maintain peaceful relations. I encourage you to watch our webinar (linked above) to learn more about how The Abraham Initiatives is doing the same. Before the end of year, please consider supporting The Abraham Initiatives so we can continue bringing international models to Palestinian and Jewish citizens. Learning from history is more important now than ever. All the best, Jimmy TaberInternational Development Director |
